Upcoming classes at Scraphaven

I have some sneak peaks to share with you for my new classes, using Kaisercraft's new "Tiny Woods" collection. The classes will be held at Scraphaven in Sunbury

The first class "Life's a Hoot" will be held on Friday 24th February, at both 10.30am and 7.00pm.

This one uses a 4x6 portrait orientation photo,
and features some very cute 3 dimensional owls!

The second layout "Deer little things" will be held on Friday 2nd March at 7.00pm for the night time ladies, or Friday 9th March at 10.30am for the morning ladies.

This layout uses a 5x7" portrait photo and has lots of trees and some cute little deers, (but you could use the rabbits or hedgehogs from the Kaisercraft paper instead).

Again, you can make the title suit your photos.

To book your space in the class please call Di Moon on 0404 266 296 or Email : dismale@bigpond.com.au . There may also be an opportunity for you to purchase the kit and instructions and complete the layouts at home if you cant get to Scraphaven.

"We are Simply Blessed" Tutorial for Scrapbook Boutique

Greetings everyone! Today I have a new tutorial over at the Scrapbook Boutique blog for you, using the beautiful Little Yellow Bicycle "Hello Fall" Collection of papers and accessories!

This collection comes with some great double sided paper, and a flower pack that has pre-scalloped paper ready for accordion folding. I found the the scallops were the exact right size to run through my cuttlebug machine using the "My Favourite things" 1/4" rosette die. It made the accordion flowers so much quicker to fold!

Cards- using Bella Blvd papers

I used Bella Bvld papers and stickers for these ones- love the bright colours!

I needed a masculine type "thinking of you" card, and the grey with blue and red worked well.

February Crafty Sketches Challenge

Helmar USA January challenge

This month I had a go at the Helmar USA monthly challenge, which is based on this sketch, which I turned on its side......

Lots of fussy cutting of the flowers from Crate paper, and the Helmar Scrap Dots were perfect for giving me the 3D layered effect for the flowers, without being able to see any foam tape underneath the really tiny elements!

The buttons are adhered with Helmar 450- my favourite glue because it dries so quickly and I know they wont fall off!!

I had another go at the "try this" challenge for January, this time making my banner "squishy". And I made some more accordion folded embellishments! The striped Echo Park "playground" paper made great flowers!

I have been wanting to play along at Show us your stuff for ages but never seemed to find the time.... until now! ! I made it my New Years Scrapping resolution to make the time to complete every challenge at SUYS, and after being lucky enough to meet Marelle in person over the holidays I really want to support her site- she is so passionate about it!

So here is my first entry "They share and care".

This is the sketch it was based on and I used Bella Blvd papers.

My handmade embellishment is the squishy heart, which was also the "try this" challenge for January. I think I'll be using that technique again! So much fun!

Echo Park "Springtime" Cards

I don't tend to make New Year's resolutions, but I do set scrappy goals, and one of my goals for 2012 is to make all my own cards instead of buying them! So here is my first few, all made using the Echo Park Springtime collection!

I started things off by making a card for a special lady who is my heart and prayers at the moment. I used the colours of the current Scrapbook Boutique challenge- White, purple and Green, There is still 11 days left to get your entries in, so if winning a $30.00 voucher would assist your scrap shopping budget, them get your entries in! "Summer Loving" Tutorial

Crafty Sketches- January 2012

This month I stuck fairly close to the Crafty Sketches sketch!!

The only real change I made was to swap the 4 small photos for one large photo.

These super fun Echo Park papers were ideal for the bright photo of Meg and Eleanor on the slide at Eleanor's 3rd Birthday party.

Christmas Decorations!

Each year I make a Christmas decoration / tag for my very special family and friends. I've been making them for the past 11 years!

This year I discovered the joy of a cuttlebug (I know..... I'm a little behind the times) but I have certainly made up for lost time using it for all my Christmas decorating!

The tags are all made using the Tim Hotlz Alterations Die- Rosettes. It cuts 2 different sized rosettes at once! You will need to purchase the longer 6x13" A plate and B plates to use the die in your cuttlebug.

I also use the Spellbinders Nestabilities Lacey Circles and the Scalloped Circles.

You could make these in any colour combination to match your Christmas theme. My papers were Gold, Burgundy and white so I used those colours.

I was even able to use them for my table settings, making napkin rings (the scalloped border on the napkin rings is the die cut rosette that hasn't been accordion folded!!) And as you can see below, I decorated a candle using the two rosette sizes together.

And the cute little Christmas boot below is one I made during a Christmas Copics class run by the amazing talented Sue Kohler at Scraphaven. We were able to make the boot using whatever colours we liked!

I hope that you all had a truly wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of our Saviour!!

I've been busy playing some gorgeous My Minds Eye Papers, and have created some new classes for Scraphaven! For these 2 classes participants will purchase one "Hip Hooray" paper kit in either a boy or girl pack (or both if they like!) and with a few add-ons of cardstock, twine and ribbon we'll be creating a single layout and a double layout over two classes, with enough left over for everyone to create some more at home!

Here's some sneak peaks of the first class on Friday 11th November (10.30am or 7.00pm). This one will be a single layout using a 5x7 photo and it can be any theme!

The next two are sneaks from the Birthday themed double layout that we will be completing on Friday 25th November (10.30am or 7.00pm). This layout is designed to get lots of photos from the birthday celebrations on a layout, and you could get anything from 5-10 photos on the layout!

Scrapbudz- October Challenge

The inspiration had to come from this photo, and you had to use cream or latte cardstock.

I took my inspiration from the colours (red, green & cream), the round elements of the photo and the leaves!

White with One

Another first time entry for me! This time it's the "White with One" challenge!

I have often looked at the challenges at White with one, but been to scared to try them! This month's challenge of "White with Black and paint/mist" really had me stepping outside my comfort zone (I really struggle with "wet" mediums like paint and mist!!) but I was determined to give it a try!

I painted the edges of the cardstock, and slapped some paint on bubble wrap and placed it on the cardstock. I also misted the handmade flowers using some new Vanilla Smooch Spritz!

I adore all the handmade embellishments available from Purple Pumpkin, but without a doubt, the spotty buttons are my favourite! I need them in every colour I think!!

I indulged my love of fussy cutting with these gorgeous "enchanted gardens" My Little Shoebox papers (gosh I am soooo in love with MLS!)

The title is a biblical verse from Romans 12:5.

Scrapbook Boutique- Altered Candles Tutorial

I tried my hand at some altered candles for a new tutorial over at the Scrapbook Boutique Blog.

For these 3 candles I have used the My Minds Eye "Lost and Found 2", Breeze papers and for the candle above I added some of the Breeze trim, and a Flourish with a Bling vine.

The striped cadle also uses some of the My Minds Eye "Lost and Found 2" Rosy crocheted lace,

The papers and trims are adhered to the candles using x-press it tape, and pritt gel.

My Little Shoebox Layouts

Last night I taught a class at Scraphaven using My Little Shoebox papers.

There were two kits to choose from- one using the "Flying High" range, and the other using the "Away we Go" range. Both kits had a pack of of the gorgeous Glitter Alphabets with them.

We used corrugated cardstock, foam tape and helmar scrap dots to get lots of dimension to the layout.

There are about 3 kits left which Di will have for sale at the Scraphaven retreat! Get in quick if you want to reserve one for yourself!

Paperific displays

Paperific was on in Melbourne this weekend and I was asked by Alison Ellis Designs to create some display pieces for their stand, using their new paper releases. This one uses the "Bush Christmas- snow gum range"

The gold and red range is called "Bush Christmas- Red Gum", and the Gold on Cream range is called "Bush Christmas- Paperbark"

And here they are on display at Paperific!

I have a new tutorial up on the Scrapbook Boutique blog. I'm so happy with the way this layout turned out! I really wasn't sure where I was going with it when I started!!

I have used:- Echo Park Country Drive papers and embellishments, Brown and Green Cardstock, We R Memory keeper's twine, x-press it tape, pritt glue, and the Bow Easy (have I told you how much I love the Bow Easy?!!! I blame for Sue for showing me how to use it! Hehehehe!

Scrapbook Boutique Challenge

Today I am sharing with you a card I made for the new challenge at Scrapbook Boutique Blog which has just been revealed!

Your challenge is take inspiration from this yummy delicious cupcake image and create a project that has ribbon and or a bow on it. How easy is that?!!

I took my inspiration from the pink and brown colours, the floral plate, and the folded cupcake wrappers. I used the Bow easy to tie the tiny bows in the grosgrain ribbon.

Scraphaven Echo Park classes

Yesterday and last night I finished teaching the Echo Park "Little Boy" and "Little Girl" classes at Scraphaven. From one kit and a few extra sheets of cardboard we have created 6 single layouts and 1 double layout over a series of 5 classes! And there is still plenty left in the kits for the lovely ladies to come up with their own creations for our "final challenge"

These are the LO's we did in the final class!

For the class partipcipants who missed a week, catch-up class is next Friday at 10.30am or 7.00pm. Please let Di know which session you will be attending, and which classes you will be doing so we can get the extra supplies ready!

Scrapbook Boutique- Honey Bee Tutorial

Doing a little happy dance here! My first tutorial has been published on the Scrapbook Boutique blog!

I have used some delicious Echo Park Country Drive papers (love how can buy the entire collection and know everything will work together!), smooth black Card stock, We R memory keepers bakery twine, (the "tertiary" twine is a perfect match for the Country Drive papers). It's all held together with X-press it DS tape, X-press it foam tape and foam squares.

Black with Two- August Challenge

This month's Black with Two challenge requires dominant black with green and no flowers! Not too difficult!

There are some great changes happening from this month at BW2- only one challenge per month but two prize winners! And from September onwards the criteria will be black with 2 colours (rather than black with one colour and another criteria). Its going to be great!

This weekend St Mary's Anglican Church is holding a winter dinner which is one of the major fundraisers for our church. There are going to be some silent auctions and mad paced "regular" auctions, so I created this card set to be auctioned off.

Yesterday the lovely ladies at Scraphaven joined me for the first of my 5 part Echo Park classes. (And I dont mind saying I was so nervous before the first class started!!). Each week they will be completing a layout or two using either the Echo Park "Little Boy" or "Little Girl" kits. The classes are designed to be simple LO's to show everyone how much you can get out of one kit- and everyone is free to add their own extra embellishments etc to make the layouts individual!

Here is my sample and the sketch it was based on, which was designed by the very talented Eve! I used the new Kaisercraft "Party Animals" range with lots and lots and lots of fussy cutting! I used the ladder of animals in place of the vertical block on the left side of the sketch, and used animals instead of flowers for the elements on the sketch. Mother's Day Classes at Scraphaven

Yesterday morning, and last night I had the pleasure of teaching lots of lovely ladies how to create these two layouts at Scraphaven. Both LO's are made using the new Kaisercraft "Chanteuse" range.

I am now working on a series of 5 classes that will run fortnightly from June 3rd, using the Echo Park "Little Boy" or "Little Girl" ranges. Participants will purchase the complete kit, and over the 5 lessons will complete as many LO's as we can using the kit (at least 8 LO's!). I am super excited to have been selected to join the Crafty Sketches Design Team! I love working with sketches (although the finished product rarely looks anything like the sketch!) and I have playing at Crafty Sketches for the past few months and loving the inspiration!

Here is my layout for the May sketch, using Kaisercraft and MME papers, and a photo my niece Eleanor!

This is the sketch it is based on, designed by CraftyNess! I tried hard to stick to the basics of the sketch this month, although I replaced the heart with a scalloped circle and used a rectangle rather than oval photo.

In honour of our 16th Wedding anniversary I decided to scrap a photo of Steve and I on our wedding day for the March Kraft it Up challenge. You had to use the quote 'there is no greater gift than today", and I thought that was a perfect quote for the photo! I used some Fancy Pants Vintage Valentine papers that are printed on Kraft!

Wow- what a huge day! Just home from teaching at Scraphaven. Taught 2 LOs this morning and repeated the class again tonight. I had the most people I have ever had book in for one of my classes- and it was lovely to meet some new ladies tonight as well as my highly valued regulars!

These are the 2 classes we did! The "Girl's best friend" was the original class I planned, and then the "Big things grow" class was added at the request of lots of people who wanted to do a "boy" layout!

Card Making

Thinking I may have to call myself a "cardie" instead of a scrapper coz I seem to be making more cards than scrapping! LOL!

I didn't get any of the January challenges done- but I am making a solemn vow to myself that I will spend the last day of January getting all the mojo-blocking things in my home sorted so that I can declare January "scrapping" month and get back into some of my favourite challenge blogs!

It has been along time between blog updates- not because I am a slack blogger, but because I am a slack scrapper! I haven't scrapped a LO in months! Last weekend I created a card for one of Meg's friends birthday using Bella Blvd papers. And yesterday I broke the LO drought, and created 2 LOs. Cant show the full LOs yet as they will hopefully become class LO's at Scraphaven, so here are some sneaks. "A Girl's best friend", using Kaisercraft "Candy Lane" range and my trade mark fussy cutting! And a back to school style LO using MME Alphabet Soup papers.

Hopefully I have broken the mojo drought and you'll be seeing LOs coming thick and fast!

Christmas Decorations

Since 2000 I have been making a special handmade decoration to attach to the gifts of my very special family and friends. Over the years these have varied from cross stitch pillows to glittered letters, baubles and even the paper stars like my previous post.

This year I went with some origami balls called "Kusudama". What I didn't do though- was properly estimate the amount of time each one takes (almost 3 hours from beginning to end!). So far I have made 13 and still need to make another 4, and each one has 60 squares of folded paper (yep- do the math- that's over 1000 squares of paper!). I used an old copy of "Great Expectations" and am hoping that Charles Dickens wont object!!

My presents this year are all wrapped in brown paper with string and the recycled book pages.

Christmas Star Tutorial

I have had lots of facebook messages in the past 24 hours since I posted a pic of the paper star on the Echo Park facebook page, requesting a tutorial- so here it is!

For this star I used 1 sheet of Echo Park "Christmas Carol" from the Merry Christmas range.

Step 1- Cut the sheet into 4" (10cm) squares. You will get 9 from a sheet and we will use 8. Step 2- Fold the square in half to form a triangle

Step 3- Fold in half again.

Step 4- Starting at the 2 open edges, cut a horizontal line approx 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the page, stopping approx 1/4" (0.5cm) from the folded edge. Repeat the cut 1/3 down from the top point.

Step 5- Open the triangle back out to a square.

Step 6- Starting from the middle, roll the two points together (rolling it over something makes it easier!) and glue. You can use double sided tape, glue dots, hot glue gun.... whatever you like to use- but it does need to be a strong adhesive. (Give consideration to which side of your double sided paper you want to be the prominent side. I wanted the musical paper to be the most prominent so I rolled it first. If I wanted the stripes to be the most prominent I would have flipped the paper over.)

Step 7- Flip the page over and adhere the next 2 points together.

Step 8- Flip the paper back over and glue the last 2 points together. You should have 2 rolls going in one direction, and one roll going the other direction. Repeat for all 8 squares.

Step 9- Glue the 2 middle rolls together- in this case making sure that the pattern is going in the same direction, so one music roll adhering to one striped roll. Step 10- Glue the bottom 2 points together. Repeat to create 4 sets of 2.

Step 11- In the same way as step 10, glue 2 sets of 2 together in the middle, again making sure that the patterns are going in the right directions. You will now have 2 halves of the star.

Step 12- Now glue the 2 halves together, making sure the patterns are continuing around the whole star. Glue the middles first, and then glue the centre (overlapping the 2 halves' points)

Step 13- Make a hole at the top of one of the points and thread some stranded floss, string or ribbon through it to make a hanging loop.

And there you have a star!

You can experiment with different papers and sizes of squares which will give you a different finished star size.

Christmas Stars

Last night I ran some demo's making these stars at the Scraphaven Christmas break-up!

They are made from a single sheet of scrapbooking paper, and once again I have used the Echo Park Christmas paper (cant half tell I love this range?!!)

Christmas Gift Bags

45 minutes before I was due to leave for Black Forest Region Guide Leaders Christmas dinner tonight I decided that the plain white gift bags I was putting their gifts in was just not up to my standard! So I quickly decorated them! And here are the 5 quick steps in takes for you to make them at home!

Red Cardstock- cut to size of bag and border punch the edges.

Echo Park paper- cut to size and ink edges.

Add white thickers for name

Cut out ornaments from Echo Park paper, doddle on them and stick them on- mounting one with foam tape! Voila! 8 Gift Bags decorated in less that 45 minutes!

It's been a long time between posts- and a long time between scrap layouts! I've been busy making my annual christmas decorations (which I will share with you if I ever find the time to get them all finished!! )

Tonight I am teaching at Scraphaven in Sunbury- and am hoping the lovely ladies will enjoy creating this layout using the Echo Park christmas range! For the ladies who are booked, bring along a black fineline marker and your photo. (I used a 5x7 landscape, but we can easily adapt the page to suit whatever size and orientation you bring!).

A huge thank you to the lovely ladies at Scraphaven who took part in my class last night! I was sooooo nervous teaching my first "live" adult class- but they were all very gentle with me and their layouts all turned out great! And no one complained about the fussy cutting! Phew! Here is what the class was based on. I used the My Minds Eye Alphabet soup papers and participants had the choice between using the boy papers or the girl papers. I am repeating the class again next week- 3rd December (10.30am or 7.00pm) , for those that missed out, and the Christmas class using Echo Park will be on Friday 10th (10.30am or 7.00pm)

Red Earth Scrapping

I was delighted to be asked by Helen to be this month's Red Earth Scrapping Random Challenger!

I have set everyone the challenge to create a layout that uses patterned paper as the base and use scallops on the layout.

Here is my sample using the very pretty Fancy Pants "Wishful thinking" range, which I purchased from RES, using the voucher I won from the October monthly challenges!

This month at Kraft it Up the challenge was to use Kraft (of course!) and decorative edges.

I went a little mad with my border punches and created this LO!

I am very excited to have been asked to teach some classes at Scraphaven in Sunbury. The class features 2 LO's using the My Minds Eye Alphabet Soup range. My samples use the boy range, but we have in stock the girl range which will work perfectly as well!

I also have another class coming up (date to be advised) for a Christmas Layout using Echo Park Christmas papers!
